Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was convicted of plotting a military coup in last fall and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments emerged.
