However, while he once claimed was about financial fairness, the new claim is that a declining Europe is fundamentally unworthy because of its shift toward multiculturalism.

Trump proclaims Europe to be weak, and in exposing the rifts in Washington and European capitals, he inadvertently aids Putin by further weakening European cohesion—all while claiming it's not his "fault".

As European nations cleaves ever tighter to Ukraine facing persistent threats of American abandonment, the danger is that Trump has constructed a rationale for ignoring his allies.

On Tuesday, a Downing Street spokesperson declined to criticize Trump's comments about Europe or his renewed attack on the mayor of London.
They said, "He enjoys a strong relationship with the U.S. president and a strong relationship with the Mayor of London, and is committed to working with both to achieve stronger results for the people."
