Ex- Bengals and University of Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Badly Burned in Farm Incident
Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after sustaining severe burns in an accident on his ranch near Burnet, Texas.
Details of the Tragic Event
According to a family statement, Shipley was operating a machine when it ignited. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was not before he sustained severe burns over a large area of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who drove him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
“Please pray for full healing and the prevention of infections and complications on his road to recovery,” wrote his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Severity of the Injuries
Reports indicate that Shipley suffered full-thickness burns to more than 20% of his body. His brother noted that the main danger at this stage is infection and pneumonia.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Football Journey
Shipley earned All-American honors with the Longhorns in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he amassed 248 career catches for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns. He also ran track for the university.
Selected in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over his professional career. His retirement came in 2014.
