Liverpool Refuses to Alter Attacking Style Despite Current Struggles, Insists Slot
Arne Slot has revealed that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he will not abandon their offensive approach in search of a turnaround. The manager admitted that six unsuccessful results in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Increasing Scrutiny Amid Difficult Period
Slot accepted the scrutiny was intense before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he insisted that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a substantial investment of almost £450m.
"We share common perspectives," stated the Liverpool boss, whose team next week face Real Madrid in the Champions League and visit the Citizens in the English top flight.
Team Strength Continues Undoubted
Liverpool's manager thinks his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and fully prepared for the programme we are facing". He noted that the transfer window acquisitions in players such as Florian Wirtz and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in an excellent position for the short-term future and the years to come".
Gelling Difficulties
When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he answered: "That's not particularly helpful. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify multiple factors why we are struggling for victories or losing as much as we do but, as I consistently state, there are insufficient justifications to have a results sequence as we had now."
- No matter if I could list multiple factors
- When you are Liverpool you should not suffer defeats
- In truth six out of seven
Defensive Statistics
Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The table-toppers, the North London club, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the champions have been too open and maintains there is no reason to compromise forward-thinking approach for a cautious system after 10 games without a goalless performance.
"From my perspective we don't allowing many opportunities so I see no justification to alter our approach completely but we must improve in keeping clean sheets," he stated.
Recent Examples
"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? When playing Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a attempt on goal. In every match we have competed in we haven't given up a many opportunities. Not at all. We do concede a bit more than last season but that has to do with us being behind early so you become more adventurous. But typically I don't feel that our issue is that we concede too many chances. Our issue is we are unable to finish the opportunities we generate."
