Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only seven months after instigating derogatory songs directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading abusive songs about Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Previous History Between Bamford & the Manager

Both men had history before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to revive his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
