Daniel Farke's men executed a perfect game plan of frustrating and containing the hosts, with the maiden scoreless draw of Arne Slot's tenure underscoring the lingering limitations within the reigning champions' latest upturn.

Resolute Masterclass Secures Vital Point

A lacklustre scoreless stalemate, the initial in 84 fixtures for Slot's team, was largely due to the immense solidity of the excellent centre-back pairing Jaka Bijol and Pascal Struijk, combined with the Anfield side's inability to unlock a well-drilled Leeds defence. Liverpool were reduced to hopeful opportunities, and a sprinkling of boos echoed around the stadium at the full-time signal on a sluggish display.

"If I do not utilise the entire squad and we have a schedule like this, I would never make changes," the manager explained. "With a footballer like Dominic I have to protect him. At the other end, their clearest opportunity came from an Alisson error. The Brazilian keeper played a wayward clearance directly to disruptor Ethan Ampadu, whose instant effort back down the centre was gathered by the alert Alisson.

Turgid Conclusion

The match deteriorated into a bitty affair, devoid on incident. The midfielder, returning from a ban, forced a save from Perri from distance. The resulting scramble led to Ampadu controlling the ball, giving the hosts a set-piece in a dangerous area, which Wirtz sent into the wall.

Slot made a triple substitution to bring urgency, and soon after Virgil van Dijk went agonisingly close to nodding his team in front from a corner, his header bouncing just wide the post.

Substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin believed he had extended his goal streak for Leeds in the final minutes, but his tap-in was flagged out for a tight offside. Ultimately, the two teams had to settle for a share of the points.
